Lion Birthday Card Tutorial

Hi everyone! I have a card tutorial for you today, made for the Eileen Hull Inspiration Team. We have a card and tag theme this month.

Leo is turning two years old next month, time really flies, it feels like just yesterday when he turned one. I thought I would make him a birthday card. What could be better than a lion themed card? He growls when he sees a lion toy or picture, but I think this one is going to get one of the noises he makes for cute animals instead. Eileen's Lion & Monkey die was used to make the lion, and also used the Homemade Alphabet, Luggage Tag and Kitchen Labels dies.

This card actually started out with me finding a die cut piece of white Paper Leather on my desk, I had used the letters for something else, and thought this leftover piece would make a good card background. You could also use watercolour paper, or mixed media paper.

Smear Distress Inks on a craft sheet, mist with water and press the Paper Leather into the ink. Paper Leather takes ink very well and is very durable.

When the ink is dry, I stamped the background with a Darkroom Door Scratches Texture Stamp and Fern Green ink.

Die cut the lion from white and brown Paper Leather.

Smear Fossilized Amber on a craft sheet, mist with water and press the smaller white lion body and the face into the ink. Repeat with Ground Espresso, also adding some to the feet and tail.

Die cut a label from burlap using one of the Kitchen Labels dies.

Die cut the Luggage Tag from Graphic 45 Safari Adventure paper. Ink the edges.

Since the patterned paper is double-sided, there was automatically a pretty background inside the tag when I folded it over. Place the burlap label on top and glue the lion together. Adhere the head of the lion with foam dots. The stamped sentiments come from the Darkroom Door Wild Africa Vol. 2 set. I also used the Lion die for a box I made to record Leo's growth.

Tie strings to the tag and adhere the tag with foam strips.

I rounded the corners of the alphabet panel and placed a patterned paper behind it, continuing on the safari theme.

A paper strip, piece of lace trim and string were adhered to the background behind the tag.

I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial! For more inspiration on Eileen's dies, check out the Die Cut Magic with Eileen Hull book by Bella Crafts, in which I am also happy to have some projects.
